OUR STORY
Difficult experiences often distance us from the present. Loss, trauma, oppression, isolation, anxiety, or depression can narrow how we perceive our bodies, our surroundings, our relationships, and our sense of the future. Slowly, life starts organizing itself around what has hurt us, reinforcing cycles of pain and disconnection.
At Confluência, you can work through these hurts and patterns without allowing them to become the only possible story about who you are.
Here, we understand therapy as a process of reconnection—with bodily expression, your own voice and power; with other people; and with the world around you. We work to loosen limiting patterns, recover breath and movement, and live a more present, joyful, and engaged life.

Meet Iara
"With attention and care, each of us can heal from our hurts and cultivate deep relationships and a love for life."
I'm Iara Cury — therapist, organizer, and facilitator. I'm a queer cisgender Brazilian woman and returning immigrant with Indigenous, African, and European ancestry. My family comes from Indigenous peoples of the Amazon, enslaved people from West Africa, and immigrants from Lebanon, Guatemala, Portugal, and Spain.
Born in Brazil, I spent most of my teenage and adult years living in the United States and England as an immigrant. Moving between these worlds, I often felt that essential parts of who I am were left out: my Indigenous and African heritage, the ongoing legacies of genocide and colonization, the realities of being an immigrant, and the difficulty of navigating systems that devalue our living world.
Over time, this journey of displacement and search for roots taught me what it means to build an identity under intense cultural and social pressures, and to fight for my own sense of worth, memory, and belonging. Along the way, I also found meaningful practices that helped me reconnect with myself and reorient my life.
Confluência brings together these personal experiences, my professional practice, and ongoing learning. Pain doesn't have to take up all the space—even in the most difficult moments, it's possible to anchor ourselves in the present and cultivate pleasure, kinship, and deeper roots. I look forward to exploring this perspective with you.
